The presence of this Austrian fielgun in Verdun is a mystery. According to some sources, it could have been captured by Italians on the Alps front, and used in Verdun by one Italian unit

French-type colour. Rear view on the breech. The tube is most probably in bronze, but this can not be verified visually because of the thick paint payer

Breech markings : 'n°F 2323-1914 SKODAWERKE AG PILSEN'

Historic and technical information
Denomination :     7.5cm M 11 FK Origin :       ( Skoda)

Historic context :

Skoda, powerful Austrian company, was a major actor in its country artillery weapons design and manufacturing. It was also present on the exportation markets with a respectable success (but behind the 'giants' Schneider and Krupp). In 1911, Skoda developped for China a '7.5 cm FeldKanone M11' fieldgun inspired from the reglementary Austrian '8cm FeldKanone M05' fieldgun, with performances slightly lower.

The work-in-progress of the second 24 guns batch of this order were requisitioned by the Austrio-Hugarian army in August 1914, together with 48 7.5cm mountain guns and 18 10.4cm light field howitzer also made for this country. A similar seizure was made on 48 mountain guns and 48 field howitzers ordered by Turkey.

The guns that survived WW1 remained in service in the reserve units of the Czech army until 1938.
