Historic and technical information
Denomination :     37mm Obuchov M 1914R Origin :       ( Russie)

Historic context :

As most of the nations in war, Russia wanted since the very beginning of the fights to get a flat fire infantry light gun. In 1914 Obuchov made such a weapon by adapting a 37 mm L/20 Hotchkiss revolver gun on a very simple steel carriage equipped with large stamped steel wheels. The barrel was integrated in a frame that could slide on the carriage, and a strong steel spring was coiled around the barrel to absorb the recoil the best it could....

This heavy (300 kg) and rudimentary gun '37 mm M 1914 R system Obuchov' was joined in 1915 by another improvised 37 mm M 1915R Rosenberg, less heavy but as rudimentary.

Several guns were captured by Finland during the 1918 independance war in 1918 and kept with the idea they would be useful as an anti-tank weapon. The winter war fights against USSr in 1939 soon proved this idea was false and all these Russian 37mm Obuchov and Rosenberg system were removed from service.
