There are two identical russian guns near this monument. Most probably weapons captured by Germany in Russia and then used by them on the Western front

The wheels have disappeared. The barrel of one of the guns is badly damaged, and the mobile blocks of the breech mechanism are absent on both

Barrel markings fisrt gun : 'C.A. Nr2595 - Obuchov - ????? - 1894'; second gun : 'C.A. Nr2604 - Obuchov - ????? - 1895'

Historic and technical information
Denomination :     42 lignes M 1877 Siege Origin :       ( Krupp)             ( Obuchov )             ( Russie )

Historic context :

In 1880 the Russian army adopted a 42 lines (107 mm - 1 line = 0.1 iinch) variant of the Krupp 105 mm M 1877 siege and fortress gun. Still, the gun was given the 1877 millenium from the iege et de place de 105mm M 1877. in this rare case corresponding to the year the whole artillery system was adopted with the 34 lines and 42 lines fieldguns.

The 'C42 lines siege and fortress gun M 1877', did not have any other kind of recoil absorbing system then some rubber buffers on the axis. It was equipped with a prismatic sliding bloc breech Krupp type. The weapons were produced by Obuchov under Krupp licence, but the carriages were produced by various Russian factories.

These guns were used for the first time during the Russo-Japanese war with a lot of success (during this war, Japaneses captured some of them and used them in their own army). They served also during the WW1 (where numerous such guns were also captured and used by the German forces), the Russian Civil War, and even the WW2. Montenegro and Finland also used that weapon.
